Car Collision Lawsuit Settles for $1.1 Million

A case was settled for $1.1 million after Samantha Elkin and Robert Ritzer were involved in a car collision.

Samantha Elkin’s life changed irreversibly on a November afternoon of 2018. While driving through Chesterfield in her 2016 Toyota Corolla, Elkin was unwittingly involved in a heart-stopping incident when a 2007 Honda Civic driven by 67-year-old Robert Ritzer collided with her car. Elkin sustained critical injuries as a result of the incident, requiring extensive medical treatment. Over five years later, Elkin’s persistence has resulted in a major court settlement.

The collision occurred when Ritzer attempted a left turn and failed to see Elkin’s approaching vehicle. The impact was severe, causing Elkin to break his left wrist and require surgery, as well as a lumbar spinal injury that necessitated a three-level disc replacement. These injuries not only caused immediate physical pain but also necessitated a lengthy period of recovery in which Elkin faced both the formidable challenge of physical therapy and the emotional toll of navigating a traumatized life.

Elkin, represented by attorney Brent Labovits, filed a lawsuit against Ritzer’s insurer, State Farm. The case was settled in early October, but State Farm denied any liability for the accident. The case settled for $1.1 million.
